NHL 2010 Winter Classic- Fenway Park

This past January I was up in Boston for the 2010 Winter Classic. After watching my first pro hockey game outside, I wish all games were outside. The site was the legendary Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox. The weather was cold, but not freezing. No wind! It was the perfect winter day. The crowd (in my opinion) was split down the middle with Flyers and Bruins fans. The event was sold out and you could feel all of the emotion in the stands.

Growing up in the US, specifically Philadelphia, hockey is not a known sport to be popular in the area (for playing organized). There is no where to play ice hockey outside (in my area). That is why I think it was such a treat and privilege to play this great sport out doors. It's just one of those things you had to be there for.

I was also able to check out some of the town. It is a nice place to visit and maybe reside. I stopped in Cheers (nothing like the show) and it was a welcoming spot, like some of the locals that I was able to meet. Little Italy (North End) had some fine food and the local watering holes were up to par. I would go there again.

If there was a roof, I would've of touched it.

The Verizion Center

So, this past Tuesday, January 6th 2009, I took a trip down to the Verizon Center down in Washington, D.C. I went to go see the Flyers play the Capitals. I was shocked to see so many red jerseys simply because I wasn't sure if the Caps had... I mean their best player of all time was Dale Hunter or Craig Berube, LOL. There were a handful of the Orange & Black supporting the Fly Guys for the game. But after our unfortunate loss in a shoot out the shit hit the fan?

My friend Luke, his pop (Rob), Tony Ditomo, and myself were outside of a bathroom in the Verizon Center. Bam! I was hit from behind. I got snuck! So I decided to turn around. Of course it was some punk Caps fans. I gave the dude my evil eye and swung but missed. But the second time he was not so lucky. He got cracked in the side of his head. Wham! Two security guards take me down. In the meantime the same dude that hit me, (the one that security walks away) hit Luke. Then in a fury, Luke threw a nice punch followed by grabbing his collar and giving this ugly Caps fan an incredible uppercut. It might have broken his jaw...

While this was going on, Rob was throwing Caps all over the place trying to keep the peace. And Tony just stood there the whole time in amazement. Luckily for these busted Caps fans security made them walk away. A handful of good Caps fans (they must have known that hockey existed in Washing before Alex Ovechekin) vouched for us stating that we just defended ourselves... and kicked some Washington ass.

Philadelphia Phillies 2008 World Champions

We finally did it! We won the game of games. World Phuckin' Champions! I have been waiting for the Phillies to win the Series since I was kid. I didn't know what it was like to win a championship in this awesome city. Now I know how it feels and thanks to the Phightin' Phils we know how it feels. The night we won it I went straight to Broad Street and the streets were full all over. A city as one. A city united. The air was a perfect cold and the streets smelled like beer and sulfur. Fireworks were high above and unfortunately on the ground level also. Lampposts slowly began to fall as the riot police were approaching at a steady pace from a far distance. This game was not won by a single man but an entire team effort. An entire fan effort!

Two days later the paper streamed down from the sky as the Phillies made their way from 20th and Market... all down South Broad Street
to Citizens Bank Park. The pavements overflowed in the streets as the police officers in cars, vans, bikes, helicopters, horses, foot, and where ever else they could appear to control the excited and anticipating crowds. Pat the Bat led the way followed by an awesome team. Even the Dolphin Tavern closed down because they ran out of beer and that my friend is a rarity. We are the Philadelphia Phillies and we are the 2008 World Series Champions.
